Qatari Scouts Participate in the World Scout Jamboree on the Air and Internet
The Qatari Scouts participated in the World Scout Jamboree on the Air and Internet (JOTA & JOTI) held on October 18, 19, and 20, in collaboration with the Qatari Amateur Radio Society. The Qatari Scouts connected with fellow scouts from around the world through the radio station established by the society at its headquarters, using the special call sign for this event (A71AJOTA).
JOTA and JOTI are official events of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, where scouts from around the world gather for 48 hours during the third weekend of October each year to communicate and exchange experiences and knowledge using various local technologies, with the assistance of amateur radio operators in their countries. The 67th Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) and the 28th Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI) provide a real opportunity for scouts, guides, and leaders of all genders to experience a genuine sense of belonging to a widely spread scouting movement.
While JOTI resembles JOTA, it connects scouts around the world through the use of internet technologies, and it takes place simultaneously with the JOTA event. Both JOTA and JOTI are globally recognized events.
The society has consistently participated in this event, which provides an opportunity for our scouts to understand the importance of communication and its role in serving humanity, as well as the role of amateur radio and the internet in acting as ambassadors for their countries and sharing their cultural, historical, and humanitarian heritage.
As part of the camp's activities, various programs were organized, starting with an introduction to the functions and features of the radio communication device. This was attended by Mr. Jassim Mohammed Al-Hardan, the General Commissioner of the Qatar Scouts and Guides Association, Mr. Sabaan Al-Jassim, an amateur radio member, and leaders Ahmed Khamees Al-Yusuf, Mona Al-Mansouri, Khalid Al-Hetami, and Yaqub Al-Tamimi, along with a group of trainers and technicians from the association.
